Amy Sargeant is a Meanjin (Brisbane) based visual artist, musician and trans justice advocate.

Through installations of sculpture, audio and video Amy’s work responds to her disillusionment with the dysfunctions of the Australian political establishment by reframing the elements of political spectacle. Amy deploys the Situationist method of detournement to de-stabilise motifs from mainstream politics, activist iconography, symbols and visual cultures.

Amy graduated from her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2017 at the Queensland University of Technology, and in 2020 completed her Master of Philosophy. She is currently undergoing a Doctorate of Philosophy at the same institution.

Amy worked from 2020-2022 as the Queer Officer of the QUT Guild, and is now the National Convenor of the NTEU’s Queer Unionists movement.

Directing System Label, an artist run initiative dedicated to producing immersive multimedia experiences, Amy has curated events like AV Video Art Festival, Panorama and The System Cut. She has headed creative projects for Anglicare, BTM Management, Jugglers Art Space, The Reverb Tour, and in 2017 directed a website redesign for St Francis Theological College.

Since 2011, Amy has undertaken studies in music theory and production at Slade Gibson Music.

Working as a studio assistant at Paper Boat Press since 2015, she has gained experience in curatorial and studio practice.
